Description

I think they were pretty close back then.

Aaah I've got this idea in my mind since forever! Well, since Bismuth's sneak peek anyway. But I had to wait until the episode because... needa make sure of Bismuth's characterization. and boy I was right, she was a sweet soul but still super dangerous bc of her strength + extremist views

I dunno why Bismuth called Pearl 'Baby Pearl', it just suddenly feels so right to me- my reasoning afterwards is that Pearl is 'defective', that might've been considered undergrown or something- hence, 'baby'

But yeah- this is kinda rushed, I don't have time. School is coming, Imma go to college, life happens
Hope I'll have time to draw

As a Pearl, her only reason to keep living is to serve the one she loves, the one she was made for. Without her, she is nothing. She cannot be happy without her owner. That is why she does everything for Rose. It's not that Rose made Pearl feel like she was everything; it was that her programming requires her to have someone to please in order to feel and be complete. At the end of the day, A Gem always follows her purpose, no matter what the circumstances are. You can't change who you are. A Gem can't change what their purpose is. A human can't change their skin color. A dog can't change into a cat. It's something that Bismuth and Garnet, among other Crystal Gems, don't even want to realize because of their undying prejudice against the Diamonds (though justified to an extent).

Pearl continued to serve Rose posthumously through Steven. It wasn't until the Diamonds saw the error of their ways that Pearl was finally free from her duties as a Pearl and was able to grow independently without Rose holding her back. All she needed was to realize how terrible Rose was all along.
